Settling Into London Life

Writer's picture: HannahHannah

On January 4th at 9:05am I arrived in London. The flight was overall fine. Decent food, for an airplane but, I still believe that Air New Zealand has the best airline food. (not that there is good airline food) The one major downside of the flight was my seat. Normally I have to ask for a seat belt extender which is annoying but not awful. However, I faced a new problem. The seat was simply too small. After having a little cry to myself, I just sucked it up. Apart from feeling the indentations of the buttons on the side of the seat forever in my thigh, I was able to sleep for some of the flight. Once I cleared customs and grabbed my luggage, (for the record I ended up bringing two checked bags, one carry-on, and my backpack) I met up with my landlord to go to my flat. The flat I found is just lovely! I ended up getting to pick my room because the other people changed their plans. Soooo, of course I went with the bigger room with nice windows. Then, I unpacked all of my stuff and got settled. The rest of my first day was chill. I broke the rule of travel and took a nap… maybe two whoops. Then on friday, I got dressed and went to the grocery store, which is a five minute walk away. I had a coffee at the cafe in the supermarket and proceeded to shop through my list I made. One downside is I had limited space to carry things back home since I walked there. I lugged three bags and a full backpack back to my flat. One of the things I picked up was some new bedding and a nice blanket. I couldn’t be happier! Day two consisted of me just getting comfortable in my new space and meal prepping some food. After a refreshing shower and a good night's sleep, I woke up to tackle the day. I had a lovely breakfast of yogurt with strawberries, and toast. Then I practiced my walk to class. It took me about 17 minutes and I enjoyed the walk. It was quite nice, I felt safe. I popped by a local cafe on the way home to get a coffee and now I’m writing this haha.

I am so excited for classes to start on monday. I believe there are quite a few other Americans in my course so hopefully I will be able to relate to people on things. There are so many things that I don’t know but I’m so excited to find out about! I’m not really sure how to explain it but it feels like I’m doing something right here. Maybe I’ve built up all these expectations in my head and it won’t go to plan but, I just feel like I’m on the right path.

Moving Forward...

One week ago I completed my course with LAMDA. I had a wonderful time and honestly my friends/family are probably going to get sick of me...

Ireland!
